The time has come to pull the plug. For the few of you who actually visit the site, this has been a hard decision for me to go through with. I was obviously holding off, but as we can all see; there have been barely any posts for the last few weeks. Jive Monsters is a labor of love, but for it to be successful requires making money from affiliates found in the ads and price links on most posts. Sadly, we haven’t made a dime.  If the site can’t support itself, it becomes a problem. On top of that, all of our writers were gracious enough to do this for free and in their spare time. So basically, there is not much incentive to write, which is understandable. Also, every ounce of spare time I had went to editing and working on the site which pulled me off of other projects. I never envisioned that I would spend so much time editing and cropping pictures, but that’s how it goes.

Despite the title of this post, I refuse to say this is the true death of Jive Monsters…more like the Odinsleep for the site. Let’s call it a hiatus. Jive Monsters will return one day when some other factors fall into place.

Thanks to the few readers we had and to all the friends, authors, and programmers that helped out; it was fun while it lasted!

Severed

What do a one-armed man, the year 1916, and that “I’m not in Kansas anymore” feeling have in common? The comic book Severed, written by Scott Snyder (American Vampire, Batman, Swamp Thing), Scott Tuft, and illustrated by Attila Futaki. Severed tells the story of a young boy who runs away from home and finds out that being on your own is nothing but a nightmare. It’s a fast-paced, gripping tale that has the feel of a classic horror movie on the printed page.

Nintendo Tries to Recover A Fumble or LOL, WUT?

The title sums up my feelings towards the 3DS in general… So, Nintendo’s big hardware reveal at TGS was the slide control attachment for 3DS. There isn’t much to say about it other than it looks like those millions of GBA attachments that were cluttering store shelves 10 years ago. Here’s hoping they just design a new 3DS (XL I hope) and learn from this experience. It’s time to make hardware that is comparable to your competition Nintendo!

The Definitive Irredeemable: Vol. 1

With great power comes great responsibility. But not all of us are up to the task. The once great Plutonian was a man who wasn’t emotionally equipped to become a powerful superhero, and has become the world’s greatest super-villain. Writer Mark Waid asks in his Harvey and Eisner nominated comic series illustrated by Peter Krause, “How do you go from being the greatest hero in the world — someone that everybody knows, and everybody loves, and everyone recognizes — to the greatest villain in the world? What is that path? It’s not a light switch, it’s not an on-off switch, it’s not something that you wake up one day and just become evil.”

The Definitive Irredeemable Volume 1 is a hardbound collection of the first three volumes of Irredeemable and will be released on September 20, 2011. You can purchase it from Amazonfor $47.24.

The Joker 1989 by Hot Toys

The companion piece for Batman, The Joker as played by Jack Nicholson truly captures the look and feel of the actor and his performance. Again, there are so many accessories it’s staggering. The detail in the costume is pretty much stitch perfect. This figure also utilizes the Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS). The resemblance to Nicholson is eerie.

Splinter Cell HD Trilogy

My favorite gruff-voiced sneaky spy (sorry Snake) is coming to the Playstation 3, remastered in HD and playable in stereoscopic 3D. Included in this bundle are the first three Splinter Cell games: Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. The bundle also has online leaderboards and trophy support for all you completionists out there. Let’s hope this bundle ushers in a return to form for the Splinter Cell franchise! Don’t get me wrong, I liked Splinter Cell: Conviction, it was just painfully short and didn’t really have that …more

Batman 1989 by Hot Toys

Another release from Hot Toys brings us Michael Keaton as he appeared in the 1989 film Batman. As per usual, this is an amazing sculpt and comes with tons of accessories (too many to list). This release also utilizes Hot Toys’ Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS). This let’s you move the head and still have the figure look forward. Cool and a little creepy.
